Social networking sites have played a significant role in the success of many artists in this day and age. For example, in 2007 rapper Soulja Boy Tell Em was a break out star with his hit “Crank that (Soulja boy)”. Soulja Boy gained recognition by adding his music to several social networking sites, which quickly spread over the Web in no time. There are several other success stories from individuals who capitalized on the power of social networking, including the New Boyz, pop rock star Colbie Caillat, and Tila Tequila.

If you’re looking for a career in modeling, acting, or music but don’t know how to get started, social networking is certainly the way to go. The traditional means of getting scouted are no longer the most effective ways to get noticed. So if you think you’ve got what it takes, stop wasting time and take charge of your own destiny! If you’re already on most social networks, make sure you’re spending that time wisely by investing in yourself.

Do this and maybe you will be the next Soulja Boy or Colbie Caillat.

For our first post, I thought it would only makes sense to write about the purpose of www.scoutwho.com and why we are here. So, without further ado…

With so many social networks out there on the Web, what exactly is the purpose of www.scoutwho.com? I mean, there are other social networks that can let me upload songs, videos, share pictures, and update my status to my friends, business associates and family. Why a new one?

Well, the team at ScoutWho felt that something was missing out there and wanted to help bridge a gap that is certainly apparent in the list of existing social sites on the Internet. We noticed that sites like YouTube, MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook were being used by aspiring musicians to promote their talent. However, these social conglomerates are too general and do not cater directly to the needs of the independent musicians, aspiring models, or similar entertainers with a pipe dream. So that’s where we came in.

We felt that by focusing specifically on the needs of aspiring entertainers, we will have a greater chance of helping them succeed than the more generalized social networks of today. Sure, they are larger, have been around for years, and are good platforms for exposure. However, they do not specialize in music, in modeling, acting. We’re a niche network, that’s what we do, the only thing we do, that’s why we exist!

So, the next time someone asks, “why another social network?”, send them to this blog post to answer their question.
